Health and Humanitarian Nominations Sought
The Jerome Foundation and United Memorial Medical Center Foundation are jointly seeking nominations for the 32nd annual Health and Humanitarian Award. The award recognizes outstanding men and women whose volunteer efforts have improved the physical, emotional, or spiritual well being of the greater Genesee County area. Batavia Downs has opened registration for the annual wiener dog races to be held Sunday, August 28, at the track, Park Road, Batavia. If you wish to enter your dog, call Arna Tygart at 585-343-3750 ext. 6437. Field is limited to the first 80 dogs to register.
Volunteer for HomeCare & Hospice

Master Gardener Training
Registration is required by Friday, August 26, for Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Training to run on Wednesday evenings, 6pm to 9pm, September 7 to November 16. There will also be a full day of class on Saturday, November 5. Class size is limited, no walks accepted. Botts Fiorito Legion Post 576, Leroy is seeking nominations for the LeRoyan of the Year award. Award is given to a person who exemplifies the true spirit of Americanism, goes beyond what is expected of them; and serves the community. Deadline to receive nominations is August 26. GLOW Household Harzardous & Pharmaceutical Waste Collection
Registration is now open with only 600 slots available for the GLOW Region Household Hazardous waste and Pharmaceutical collection day to be held Saturday, September 17 in Batavia. Latex paint, used motor oil, asbestos and household batteries will NOT be accepted. Only two CRT TV's or Monitors per registrant will be accepted. Registration is open for Challenger Tennis, open to youth with special needs ages 5 to 21. Lessons and games will be held on Sundays, 4:30pm to 6pm, September 4, 11, 18, and 25, at the Batavia High School Tennis Courts. Challenger Tennis is a collaborations with the City of Batavia Youth Bureau and the YMCA. Call 344-1664 for more information and registration.
The American Red Cross is in urgent need of blood donors. If you can help save a life, contact the American Red Cross online
and schedule an appointment to donate blood. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check in. Individuals who are 17 years of age or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate.
Alzheimer's Support Group - Batavia
The Genesee County Alzheimer's Support Group will meet at the Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross Street, Batavia, the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7pm. The group is designed to provide emotional and social support for caregivers and help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems.
Medical Transportation Program
The Genesee County Office for the Aging is in critial need of volunteers to take individuals to medical appointments outside of Genesee County. Supplemental liability insurance is provided to all volunteers and mileage reimbursement may be available.
