Genesee Community College has officially dedicated the newest building on its Batavia Campus.
The 54,000 sg. ft. Richard C Call arena was shown off to the community last night.
College President James Sunser sees the field house as another draw to GCC

"It's a terrific space for our students, all of our students not just athletes.  This will be a real draw for the college. This is going to allow us to do more to bring the community to campus by having different types of events and get to know us better."

Richard Call passed away three years ago. He was a longtime supporter of GCC and an advocate for the event center.
The facility is the largest indoor space in four county GLOW region.

A teenage girl is dead after being hit by a car in Geneseo. 
Deputies in Livingston County say the 14-year-old was killed while running on Route 39 yesterday afternoon. 
The teen was reportedly running with a friend at the time.
Authorities are withholding the girl’s name until all family has been notified.

A Byron man behind bars on a drug charge.
The Genesee County Local Drug Enforcement Task Force arrested 37 year old Chad Alwardt of Byron on a bench warrant.
While being taken into custody Alwardt was allegedly found in possession of heroin.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is warning of what his office is calling poison pills hitting the streets of New York. 
Schneiderman announced his office had seized a large shipment of counterfeit oxycodone pills.  The pills are disguised to look identical to pharmaceutical grade painkillers but are laced with the dangerous opioid fentanyl.  More than 500 pills were found in Buffalo. 
Schneiderman said tests showed some of the pills were strong enough to kill a person with a single dose.

Governor Cuomo is offering assistance as Hurricane Irma barrels through the Caribbean toward Florida. 
The governor sent more than 100 members of the National Guard from Long Island to the U.S. Virgin Islands to assist in the response to the hurricane. 
Cuomo is also pledging support for Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and other Caribbean areas.
