The Director of the Richmond memorial Library emphatically insists that the library has a strict policy against the use of library computers to view child pornography.
The issue arose with the arrest last January of Robert Richmond of Batavia.
His case has now been moved into federal court.
Today, library director Bob Conrad said that viewing kiddie porn is against library policy and, against the law:

"In the case that happened last January (Robert Richmond) it was actually an astute library employee who witnessed the crime in progress and called the police. The library admintration surrendered physicaly evidence to law enforcement. The library Board of Trustees took the additional measure of banning the patron from the library for life."

Conrad said the issue is not as clear in the case of so-called adult pornography which is not illegal and is often argued in the context of free expression.
