At least one form of revenue is up for Genesee County in these tough economic times.

Sales tax collections have risen in our county for the 4th straight year. And, first quarter sales tax receipts have increased by 8% over last year’s first quarter total.

County Treasurer Scott German says all the added revenue will help the county make up ground on other departmental budgets, and build a surplus budget for Genesee County.

"We have budgeted $12, 200,000 for 2011," says German. "We are on pace, with today's payment, to be about $261,000 over budget."

The news comes as school districts and local governments have been slashing budgets in order to just get by.
