A Batavia man was killed this morning when, for an unknown reason, his car crossed into the opposite lane of West Main Street Road and struck another vehicle head-on.
Pronounced dead at the scene was 37-year-old Jonathan Colby.
The driver of the second car has been identified as 27-year-old Angelo Merica of Pavilion.
Chief Deputy Gordon Dibble of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office explains what happened:

"The eastbound car, coming into Batavia, was operated by Mr. Colby. For an unknown reason, his car went over into the westbound lane and struck Mr. Merica's vehicle head-on. We have witnesses, one of whom was directly behind the Colby car, so the events of the accident are clear. What we don't know is why," Dibble said.
Angelo Merica was taken by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial with what were described as serious injuries.
Colby was married and a father of a six year old daughter.
He was a former teacher at Batavia’s Notre Dame High School and was employed at Lowes.
He was currently working overnights at the Lowes in Orchard Park. He wrote on his Facebook page, “Overnights really starting to hit me now.”
