A dangerous foot-chase across the busy New York State Thruway this afternoon. One man is in custody of Batavia Police.
The incident began just before 1 o’clock. Chief Randy Baker tells WBTA that an officer was sent to the Days Inn on Noonan Drive, to evict three tenants from a hotel room they’d neglected to pay for.
"(The officer) got a complaint; they asked him to help get the people removed from the room," says Baker. Upon arrival, the officer found two of the tenants in the room. The third was in a car outside the hotel (pictured).
"He took off running. The other two people stayed in the room," says Baker. "He crossed the Thruway on foot."
The officer pursued the fugitive across the Thruway and eventually brought him down in a field near Route 98. Chief Baker says the suspect may have dropped some sort of illegal substance in that field. Drug-sniffing dogs were dispatched to the scene to locate that possible substance.
The suspect’s name has not been released. He is being held in custody. The other two tenants are being detained for questioning.
