The westbound Thruway just past Rochester has re-opened this afternoon, but the eastbound lane remains closed, following a deadly accident involving a tour bus and tractor-trailer.
The truck driver died at the scene. He is 59-year-old Timothy Hume, from Dryden in the State of Michigan.
According to State Police, Hume was eastbound on the Thruway in Seneca County at about 1:20am, when he came upon the tour bus on the side of the road. The bus attempted to re-enter the roadway and pulled out in front of Hume’s truck. The two collided and both vehicles exploded in flames.
30 people on the bus were injured. Two were Mercy Flighted to Rochester with unknown injuries.
Thruway delays held all morning long. Again, the westbound lane is open, but eastbound remains closed, with a detour into Seneca County.
