It’s time for Economic Development efforts in Western New York to overcome neighboring rivalries and parochialism.
Governor Andrew Cuomo delivered the message yesterday as he announced the establishment of regional Economic Development Councils that he hopes will tear down local boundaries that have impeded progress.
Every county in the state is now part of a regional Economic Development Council.
Genesee County is in the Finger Lakes Region.
The only representative from Genesee County on the regional council is Liberty Pumps CEO Charles Cook.
The Finger Lakes Council includes Wyoming, Orleans, Livingston and Monroe counties, among others.
Western New York’s unemployment rate rose slightly as more seasonal workers moved into the region's job market.
For the region, the jobless rate rose to 7.7 percent in June from 7.5 percent in May.
In Genesee County, the unemployment is holding steady at 6.7 percent for June, 6.7 percent for May and the same 6.7 percent from June of last year.
Since last weekend, there have been over 120 arrests made at Darien Lake concerts, most of them for underage drinking.
Add another 18 from last night, a dozen of those for underage drinking.
Five other arrests were made for drunk driving.
An Orleans County man is charged with possession of stolen property.
The case against Richard Robb is going to the grand jury.
Last month lawmen found 73 apple trees growing on Robb’s property in Kendall - trees police say were stolen.
