Somebody is blowing up bottle bombs in the Village of LeRoy.
Repeated reports of explosions have been coming in from the village’s West side during the past week. Since then, investigators have discovered the remnants of materials from several bottle-bombs. The explosives are made with plastic drink bottles, packed with highly corrosive household chemicals.
Detective John Condidorio says so far, there doesn’t appear to be a target for the bombs.
"We're unaware of any type of damage that has occurred," said Condidorio. No one has yet been injured by a bomb, but public safety is still the top priority in the case.
"This has the potential to be a very dangerous situation," he said. Condidorio's worry is that a passerby will receive a chemical burn or shrapnel injury resulting from one of the explosions.
The perpetrators could face serious charges.
Anyone who hears or sees an explosion or a bomb being built is asked to call 9-1-1.
