Batavia’s United Memorial Medical Center has been given an ‘average’ bill of health by the New York State Department of Health.
The DOH this week released its statistics on hospital infections statewide. UMMC is reportedly performing at-or-near the average rates for several different hospital-borne infections:
- On colon and hip procedures, UMMC achieved a surgical infection rate of 1.85. The state average is 1.00.
- In the only other category UMMC qualified for, 0.00 infections were reported in the medical surgical Intensive Care Unit (not statistically significant).
- C.diff (clostridum difficile) infections are held as a separate category in the report. Again the hospital was average, reporting 17 cases of hospital-borne C.diff over the course of 20,000 patient days (how many cumulative days all patients spend in the hospital).
