A 9-year-old girl died from injuries she suffered when a car driven by her father failed to stop at a stop sign in the Town of Sheldon.

There was heavy fog when the accident occurred at 7:30 Sunday morning.

33-year-old Jeramie Helmer was east bound on Perry Road in the Town of Sheldon. Three of his children were in the car.

As he approached Route 77, Helmer may not have seen the stop sign and proceeded through the intersection where his car was struck by a northbound vehicle.

Helmer’s nine year old daughter, Riley, was elected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Helmer and his two other children were treated for minor injuries and released.

The driver of the second car also suffered minor injuries.
