The Byron-Bergen School District has named a new Superintendent of Schools. The board has unamioulsy appointed Casey Kosiorek of LeRoy. He will be getting a three and a half year contract. Kosiorek is currently the Principal at the Wolcott Street School in LeRoy and is a graduate of Batavia High Scholl.. He has been in the LeRoy position since 2007. He replaces Scott Martzloff who resigned at the end of the last school year to take the same position with the Williamsville School District. Kosiorek will assume his new post effective on January 9th of next year.
Two persons were injured in a two car crash Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Routes 63 and 77 in the town of Alabama.
Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies say a car driven by 19 year old Joelle Reiner of the Tooley Road in Cowlesville was west bound on route 63 when she turned in front of a north bound vehicle on route 77. That north bound car was driven by 71 year old Frederick Hart of Kennedy Circle in Medina. Reiner was taken to UMMC and a passenger in Hart’s car, 74 year old E.J. Hart was taken to Medina Memorial Hospital. Injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Reiner was ticketed as the result of the accident.
Congresswoman Kathy Hochul on Saturday hosted a small business export forum in the area. The purpose of the forum was to help local businesses compete in a global economy. Hochul told the gathering that nearly 27 thousand New York businesses export from New York State to other countries every year and that 94 percent of those businesses are of small to medium size. Last year the Buffalo-Rochester area accounted for 8.5 billion dollars woth of export shipments.
The Batavia area came out nearly untouched from the predicted weather the last few days. Slightly less than 2 inches of snow was reported for Batavia. That’s quite a bit less than the up to 10 inches that was predicted for parts of Western New York. Sunny weather is predicted for today with a high in the mid 30’s.
A Batavia woman has been charged with Petit Larceny after an incident at the Target Store. 26 year old Jessie Cramer of West Main Street Road in the town of Batavia was stopped for reportedly steaing 54 dollars worth of merchandise from the Target Store. She’s schedule to be arraigned in Batavia Town Court on December 29th.
