A babysitter in Basom is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from her longtime neighbor – a neighbor who never believed it could have been her.

18-year-old Dora Poodry is charged with felony Grand Larceny today, after allegedly taking over $3,000 in cash from her neighbor’s home. According to Genesee County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Kris Kautz, Poodry had been babysitting for the neighbor for years – when in December 2010, he says she began stealing money hidden in the home.

The homeowner noticed the money was missing, but according to Investigator Kautz, the homeowner was simply reluctant to believe the longtime babysitter could be stealing.

Poodry allegedly kept snooping around and finding more hidden cash, until in March this year she apparently stole what investigators call “a considerable amount.”

Then a report was filed, and a months-long probe led to her arrest. Poodry is now on supervised release, awaiting a court date next week.
