Our county just may ride the “Wave” to success.
That’s “Project Wave” we’re talking about – the code-name for a multi-million dollar food processor that may build a giant factory right here in Batavia.
Thursday, we got the closest thing yet to a confirmation that “Project Wave” will build here. Senator Chuck Schumer released a statement to WBTA News, indicating that the company involved truly wants to build in Genesee County.
Schumer said, quote: “The company looked at a number of sites, and they have honed in on Batavia. Local officials are now in final negotiations for that site.”
Schumer is now lobbying the U.S. Department of Agriculture for half-a-million dollars to properly build out the Genesee Agri-Business Park, to properly accommodate “Project Wave.”
If some state legislators get their way – there’ll be new government leadership in the southern part of Genesee County.
All 4 southern towns – Darien, Alexander, Bethany and Pavilion – would fall under Assemblyman Steve Hawley, in the new re-districting proposal from Albany leadership.
Those towns currently belong to Assemblyman Daniel Burling’s district.
Pembroke, in the proposal, would leave Hawley’s district and get grouped in with part of Erie County.
Meanwhile, on the Senate side of Government, Mike Ranzenhofer would remain unchanged under the proposal, still controlling all of Genesee. The rest of Ranzenhofer’s district would move eastward, backing out of heavily populated Tonawanda, but gaining Churchville, Riga and part of Rochester.
High Speed Chase
A high-speed chase with a 10-month-old baby in the suspect’s car!
Wyoming County Sheriff’s say that happened just thursday afternoon in Middlebury.
Deputies say they responded to a report of a burglary on Route 19, and found 27-year-old Harley DuBois walking away from the scene. They say Harley hopped in his car, with wife Amanda and the baby inside, and took off, leading lawmen on a fast chase that turned onto Fox Road as well.
Deputies eventually got Harley DuBois stopped. That’s when they found the baby in the car.
Harley and Amanda DuBois are both charged with Burglary and Grand Larceny, and they’ve been connected to other crimes.
The baby has been placed with family.
