Catholic Charities raised over $8 million in donations for 2012, raising 83% of their $10.6 million goal.
Their donation drive named “Appeal Week” is where volunteers collect donations from all their parishes across Western New York.
The money raised goes towards the programs Catholic Charities offers such as counseling, anti-domestic violence programs, and co-parenting programs for divorced or separated couples.
Sister Mary McCarrick said Genesee County raised over $200,000.
"The little bits that people pay for these programs are not nearly the cost of the program, so without additional funding from Catholic Charities we would not be able to offer these kinds of programs throughout the eight counties of Western New York," said McCarrick.
McCarrick said everyone welcome to use Catholic Charities services; you're not required to be catholic. She said the bulk of their clients are from many different faith communities.
