The two Batavia City firemen accused of running an illegal gambling ring are off the City payroll.
Gregory Phillips and Brian Bordonaro have been suspended from their jobs without pay.
They’ve remained on the city payroll since their arrest in February, because although criminal charges were filed against them there weren’t any departmental charges filed.
They are entitled to a disciplinary hearing within the next 30 days. The two are also facing charges of possession of gambling records along with a third man, Lance Engel who is not a firefighter.
Phillips is also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Investigators said the bookmaking operation handled more than a $1-million a year.
