19-year old Trever Pilc formerly of Jackson Street received his sentence in County Court yesterday.
In February Pilc plead guilty to burglarizing Neptune Gardens, Batavia's Original, Blondie's and the Batavia Youth Bureau building back in September and was ordered to pay over 11-thousand dollars in restitution.
But he wasn’t alone, during the burglaries his accomplice 19-year old Michael Ames already received his sentence for the crimes. He is serving a 4 to 14 year sentence in Wyoming County.
During yesterdays hearing Pilc plead with Judge Robert Noonan to not give him the same sentence as Ames.
Pilc said he realized what he did was wrong, but the 14-year sentence was too long for somebody his age”
Noonan agreed, but said Pilc made his own bed. Pilc will now spend up to 7 years in prison which is the maximum sentence under his plea deal.
Also in county court yesterday 47 year old Michele Case was given a 4 month jail term after been convicted on a charge of Grand Larceny. Case is the former Hospice nurse who was convicted of stealing nearly 15 thousand dollars former employer by submitting exaggerated expense forms to her employer. In a statement to the court, Case said she is innocent and blamed her former employer, investigators, and District Attorney Lawrence Friedman of doing a poor investigation. She will serve the four months in 48 hour intervals. Terms for restitution have not yet been determined.
22 year old Ashley Jones is in ECMC after an ATV accident in Pavilion Monday night. At first Jones did not seek treatment, but when her condition worsened she was taken to UMMC and then by Mercy Flight to ECMC. The ATV that she was riding on struck some trees in a driveway off the Rogers Road in the Town of Pavilion. The driver, 23 year old Eric Swede was also injured, but not seriously. Both were ejected from the ATV.
A Batavia woman was injured in a two car crash Tuesday morning at the intersection of the West Middlebury Road and the East Road in the Town of Middlebury in Wyoming County. Patricia Chaya of East Main Street in Batavia was taken to UMMC. Her car struck a car driven by 21 year old Rebecca Tallman. Tallman has been ticketed for failure to yield the right of way after going through a stop sign.
There has been a copy cat suicide attempt at Niagara Falls, only this time it was successful. On Monday, a 40 year old man survived going over the Horseshoe Falls, but yesterday the unidentified person succeeded in their goal by jumpinginto the river above the American Falls. Niagara Parks Police say there has been a recent uptick in suicides at Niagara Falls.
At Troop A State Police Headquarters in Batavia, a memorial service will be held today to honor the State Police Officers who have been killed in the line of duty. The ceremony will be at 10AM at the headquarters on West Saile Drive. Those killed in the line of duty range from the 1925 death of Trooper James Losco to last year’s death of Trooper Kevin Dobson.
A Byron man has been charged after allegedly discharging a fire arm. 43 year old Al Davids of the Bird Road in Byron was given a summons for discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a residence. He will appear in Byron Town Court next month.
A Buffalo man is arrested after alleged DNA evidence linked him to a Batavia burglary.18-year-old Steven McKnight is accused of stealing from a home on Batavia-Elba Townline road back in December.McKnight wasn’t collard until recently, because a blood sample found on a French door at the crime scene was being tested by a Monroe County Crime Lab.McKnight was charged with Burglary in the Second. He is in custody awaiting sentencing for another burglary charge in the town of Pembroke.
