The Downtown Hosta Garden compliments the efforts of the Batavia Business Improvement Districts hanging baskets, newly installed mega-flower pots and the proposed flower bed improvements at the Jackson/Main St. intersection. More “greening” of downtown is also on the horizon.
Hosta’s are a hardy, shade-loving plant most popular for its wide variety of plant size and foliage texture, shape, and color. Colors range from blue to greens to yellow, and textures can be smooth or puckered. Hosta’s are generally easy to take care of as long as they are given partial shade and ample moisture.
There will be more than 65 hosta’s, 21 different species, being planted in the flower beds downtown. Any residents that have other species of hosta’s that would like to donate them to the Downtown Hosta Garden are encourage to contact the City Manager’s Office at 345-6330 to make arrangements for planting.
