Senator Charles Schumer is asking the Nations Agriculture Secretary to make Greek yogurt more affordable for public schools.

Schumer says the yogurt would expose more students to the high-protein food and provide a boost for Upstate New York businesses that produce the yogurt.

Schumer sent a letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack Monday asking for him to modify the school lunch program to incorporate Greek yogurt as a high-protein alternative for non-meat eaters.

Schumer said a change in regulations would allow schools to purchase the yogurt at a more affordable rate and benefit the health of students.
