The State Fireman’s Association is reminding people that while fireworks are a fun way to celebrate Independence Day, they can also be very dangerous.
The association is offering some tips on how to stay safe during the firework shows.
They say the only way to stay safe is to view fireworks displays by trained professionals.
The safest distance to view a fireworks display is from a quarter of a mile away or more.
Avoid bringing pets to these shows, because loud noises can frighten them and damage their hearing.
Lastly, they are warning people not to possess or shoot off any fireworks on your own, not only because it’s dangerous, but they are illegal in New York.
Approximately 15,000 fires are caused by fireworks every year.
