An altercation on Lewis Place in Batavia early this morning resulted in injuries to two men and one of those arrested. Batavia Police were sent to Lewis Place for a report of a large fight. When they arrived they found one man who had been stabbed. The victim was taken to UMMC for non-life threatening injuries and released. A search of the area turned up 22 year old Adante Davis of State Street. He was also treated at UMMC for injuries sustained in the fight. Davis has been charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He’s in jail pending his next court appearance on Monday.
An Oakfield woman has been charged with shoplifting after removing items from Target without paying for them. 19 year old Kelly Howard of Judge Road in Oakfield has been charged with Petit Larceny. She was charged with taking items in June and July totaling nearly 65 dollars. She’ll be back in Batavia Town Court on July 19th to answer to the charges.
20 year old Quentin Humphrey of East Bethany Leroy Road in Leroy has been accused by Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies with hosting an underage drinking party yesterday at his home. Humphrey has been charged with unlawful dealing with a child. He’ll face further action in LeRoy Town Court on July 30th.
The Batavia area survived Saturday’s early morning rain. The unofficial rain total for Batavia was .13 inches. The official total for Buffalo was .09 inches and .07 for Rochester. A sunny day is forecast for our area for today with a high of about 80. Yesterday our high was 80 with a low of 68 degrees, a slightly above average day for July 7th in Batavia, three degrees above to be exact.
Yesterday mornings thunderstorm did some minor damage in the area including a limb falling on a parked car on Ross Street. The empty car was severally damaged. Some power lines were reported down on the Creek road and along route 20 in the area of the Brookville Road. The Pavilion Fire Department also reported multiple incidents of trees and lines down.
After being closed due to high bacteria levels on Friday, both Ontario Beach Park and Durand Eastman Beach are once again open for swimming. Beach hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., but could close early in the event of a thunderstorm. Hamlin Beach is also open to swimmers.
The Genesee County Highway Department will begin a series of repairs to the River Street Bridge this week. The repairs include joint replacements and a full deck mill and fill. The repairs will have a major impact on travel across the bridge as traffic will be reduced to one lane. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes. The repairs are scheduled to start this Tuesday and last for at least two weeks with another closure scheduled for later this summer to complete the repairs. The River Street bridge carries traffic over the Tonawanda Creek between West Main Street and South Main Street.
State Police are running an operation this week that clamps down on speeders in construction zone. Operation Work Brake will run Monday through Friday where extra patrols will look for lead foot drivers. Troopers will be stationed along the Thruway construction zones and some other major state highways.
