A burn ban is now in effect across Western New York. The ban was issued by Department of Environmental Conservation as the area is still very dry.
Tim Yaeger is the Coordinator for Emergency Management Services in Genesee County. He said the dry conditions could cause even the smallest of fires to spread.
“The environmental conservation has extended the burn ban for residential brush burning from July 15th until October 10th and that’s due to the drought conditions that we are under and the high humidity conditions that we have in a long pretty much all of New York but especially in Western New York,” said Yaeger.
Yaeger said camp fires and cooking fires are still allowed, but even those should be watched closely as fire spreads rapidly in drought like conditions. He said law enforcement will be enforcing the open burn law.
