Breast cancer rates could decrease thanks to a new piece of state legislation.
A bill was signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo requiring doctors to tell patients if dense breast tissue is found during a mammogram.
According to medical professionals cancerous tumors can be found in dense tissue and by informing women of these risks could lead to earlier cancer detection and treatment.
The new law is expected to take effect in January.
