The Veterans Affairs Healthcare System of Western New York announced Wednesday that they have joined HEALTHeLINK.
HEALTHeLINK is the region's clinical information exchange system. The program is of zero cost to local vets and they will not have to carry paper documents to their doctor’s visits anymore.
Healthcare providers can now access the patients’ medical records electronically. The information in the system will include the patient’s entire medical history from their medications to their last surgery. It’s expected to reduce patient's waiting time, healthcare costs and repeat testing.
Veterans should sign up at the VA by filling out a consent form to allow for the information sharing.
