The town of Batavia will receive over $2.2-million for a new sewer system. The town was awarded the funding through the USDA Rural Development Friday to create the new system and pumping station. The funding consists of a $1,222,000 low interest loan and a $1-million grant.
Town of Batavia Supervisor Greg Post said the Route 5 corridor has been in need of a sanitary sewer system for a while now.
“There is well over 100 households and somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 or 20 existing businesses and I would expect that there would be future development as a result of the construction and future opportunities for people to grow their homes and expand the existing businesses with a reliable source of water,” said Post.
Post said a recent vote showed overwhelming support for the sewer system and everyone he has spoken to said they are delighted to recieve the funds.
State U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congresswoman Kathy Hochul assisted in securing the funds.
