Carlos Cardenas was living in Albion early last year, a Mexican citizen here illegally, when he raped and murdered the 15-year-old sister of his wife.
Cardenas, now 22, has been sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison. It was the maximum sentence he could receive.
Cardenas, in a plea deal reached earlier this year, admitted he raped and strangled 15-year-old Katy Sanchez when she threatened to tell her sister.
Officials said if Cardenas ever gets out of jail, he will be deported.
A teenage baby sitter has been charged with murdering the five year old child he was supposed to be watching in Niagara Falls.
Little Isabella Sarah Tennant's body was found in a garbage can in an alley near her great-grandmother’s home where she was staying. Police say 16-year-old John Robert Freeman killed her with his bare hands Sunday night.
Another teenager was charged with evidence tampering for allegedly helping Freeman move the little’s girls body after she was killed.
Police say they have no motive in the case.
An Oakfield man is facing felony drunk driving charges.
34-year-old Walter Hale was pulled over on Route 63 on Sunday.
State Police said a breathalyzer showed Hale’s blood alcohol content nearly twice the legal limit.
Troopers said there were three young children in the car leading to felony charges under Leandra’s law.
Bail for Hale was set at $5,000.
A Town of Alabama man is accused of abusing a 4-year old child in his care. Earl Sprague, 42, has been charged with sex abuse in the first degree. An investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.
