Batavia Police report a rash of counterfeit bills circulating the city.
The Department has received numerous reports in the last week of fake 50-dollar bills being passed at city businesses.
The counterfeit fifties are actually “washed” five-dollar bills. That means the ink on normal five dollar bills has been removed, and then the bills were re-printed. This process makes the fakes difficult to pinpoint because they remain the same size and texture as normal paper money.
Batavia Police say the security strip on the bad bills will read “USAFIVE” all in capital letters.
Anyone with information on the counterfeit money is asked to call the Police Department at 345-6350.
