Two Western New York teens appeared in Niagara Falls City Court Friday morning in connection with the death of five-year-old Isabella Tennant.
16-year old John Freeman of Niagara Falls is accused of strangling Tennant to death and stuffing her in a garbage can in Niagara Falls. 18-year old Tyler Best of Buffalo is accused of helping Freeman hide the 5-year old’s body.
Freeman pled not guilty to second-degree murder and Best has plead not guilty to tampering with evidence. The two waived their right to a preliminary hearing and their case will go to a grand jury in Lockport.
Freeman’s Defense Attorney Robert Viola said no application for a competency hearing has been sumbitted, but they haven’t ruled it out. “We’re as perplexed as everyone else is. Because quite frankly, it literally makes no sense. He is extremely, extremely upset and remorseful,” said Viola.
