The Environmental Protection Agency began testing air samples near a village of Attica glass factory. The Department of Environmental Conservation confirmed Friday that they called the EPA to assist in taking air samples near Hillcrest Industries.
Thursday, the EPA set up a monitoring device at Attica High School to search for possible harmful chemicals within the air.
The testing was urged by local residents after they complained a foul smell was coming from a large pile of recycled glass at Hillcrest Industries. Residents have also voiced concerns about particulates in the air coming from the facility burning the recycled glass.
The EPA expects to have testing wrapped up by this Tuesday.
