The Genesee and Orleans' Ways & Means Committees recommended approval of shared public health services in the two counties.
The draft agreement under discussion is to name Orleans County Public Health Director Paul Pettit the overall director and David Whitcroft of GeneseeCounty as deputy director.
The agreement would lead to a decrease in administrative costs, reduction in duplication of services and collaboration on programs such as clinics, education and wellness.
The state Department of Health and legislatures from both counties have to approve the measure. Orleans and Genesee lawmakers are scheduled to vote on it at their next meetings, both of which are Sept. 26.
