The Town and Village of Castile has been declared a state of emergency following a destructive fire to its municipal building this morning.
There are no working computers and phones in the town and village offices so the government cannot function.
More than a dozen area fire departments joined in the fight against flames that ripped through the century-old building at 55 Main Street in Castile at 2 A.M. this morning.
The building housed the CastileTown and Village offices, a courtroom, restaurant and some apartments.
The historic building has been declared a total loss.
Severely hindering the fire fighting: a lack of water.
The water mains in the village were being repaired and the hydrants were not in operation. Firemen had to truck in water and set up portable ponds for their water supply.
Nearly every fire department in WyomingCounty was called to the scene along with two departments from GeneseeCounty.
Preliminary reports indicate the fire may have started in the restaurant.
