Flames damaged a home at 102 River Street Friday night and took the life of a pet dog. An electrical problem appeared to be the cause of the fire according to Lt. Marty Hinz of the Batavia Fire Department.
The woman who lived at the home came back to find the house on fire. She tried to rescue the dog, but couldn’t get it out because of the thick smoke. The occupant and his three daughters who lived in the other side of the duplex were able to escape the fire uninjured.
Six persons were charged last night at the College Village apartments; 5 for underage drinking and one for criminal trespass.
The five allegedly are under 21 and possessed alcohol. They’re identified as 19 year old Trevlyn Henry,19 year old Brendaliz DeJesus, 19 year old Ilkia Solana, 19 year old Drema Bautista, and 19 year old Kiera Smoot. All were listed as residents of College Village. A sixth person, 18 year old Kara Sass of Coward Road in Byron was charged with Criminal Trespass. She was found inside a residence hall after being previously banned from all College Village property. All six will be arraigned later in Batavia Town Court.
An Oakfield man was arrested twice on Friday. 24 year lld Jeffry Johnson of Forest Avenue in Oakfield was first charged with appearing in Public under the influence of a narcotic or drug other than alcohol. Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies say that drug was heroin. The incident occurred on Buffalo Road in Bergen. About 7 hours later Johnson was arrested for stealing a six pack of beer from the 7 Eleven store in Oakfield. He was charged additionally with petit larceny. He’s in jail with bail set at 300 dollars.
