Elba’s mayor officially resigned earlier this week.

When reached by WBTA this morning by phone at his business, he had no comment about his resignation except that he just didn't have the time. He said he didn’t understand why it was “such a big deal.” To residents he says “thanks for the good last five years.”

Stephen Goff was first appointed mayor in 2007 when Dean Boyce resigned. Goff was elected in 2008 to serve the remaining two years of Boyce’s term and won a full term in 2010.

Goff is the owner of the village’s Stumblin’ Inn. He had previously been on the Village Board beginning in 1999.

Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Kathy Yungfleisch says a new mayor will be appointed in the near future.

Update: The village of Elba says that deputy mayor Scott Schuler will step up to fill the position’s duties; but there is no other plan at the moment.
