The Seneca Nation wants to build an outlet mall in Chautauqua County on its own land; but County government officials want to make sure that local municipalities benefit if the project goes through.
The Nation wants to build the outlet mall on 108 acres of land near exit 58 off the Thruway. Seneca officials believe that the mall would generate millions of dollars in revenue.
Questions still remain about how much the outlet mall would cost. The project would require multiple approvals from local municipalities and the county.
Senator Charles Schumer says Senecas would have to collect sales tax if the outlet mall is approved.
