Albion Police conducted a multi-unit Stop DWI Vehicle and traffic road check in the village from 10 pm – 3 am and it was quite successful.
Here’s the final tally from law enforcement: Three were arrested for driving while intoxicated and one for driving while ability impaired due to marijuana. There were seven more arrests for unlawful possession of marijuana and various traffic or vehicle violations.
In one car which attempted to evade the stop, Police discovered three undocumented immigrants, one of which was a violent felon and had extensive criminal history. The three were detained by border control.
The Albion Police Department was recently awarded almost $4,000 from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee to participate in the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP. The grant runs through September 30, 2013.
The Albion Police Department was assisted by the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office and K-9 unit, New York State Police, Border Control and other agencies.
