Republican Chris Collins declared victory over Congresswoman Kathy Hochul in the hard fought campaign for the 27th congressional district.
The race was extremely close as the midnight hour approached, but Hochul conceded the race in the early morning hours.
In his victory celebration Collins postulates why Hochul lost.
“I do believe her ad for Buffalo China backfired on her in Erie County where people know me inside-out, and that ad was a bold-face lie," Collins said. "We saw a switch in the oats three weeks of the race where she was winning Erie County, then she lost Erie County. Besides our hard work staying on message, I do believe that Buffalo China ad cost her the election.”
Collins calls the win a comeback for the ages, saying he is humbled by the victory and pledged to work for more jobs in America.
Hochul conceded the election with this statement:
“Early this morning I called Chris Collins and congratulated him on being elected to Congress. I encouraged him to work across the aisle and offered to assist him in any way I can. I also volunteered to help him make a smooth transition in January to ensure our constituents are well served. Congress can do better, and the people of this country deserve better than what Washington has given them.”
