Congressman-elect Chris Collins is the representative for New York’s 27th District. The next question is where the Republican will be headquartered once his term begins.
There’s an argument to be made for Batavia because of its location right in the middle of the District. The newly-redrawn lines of the 27th District include the majority of Erie, Orleans, Wyoming, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario and Niagara Counties. Putting an office in Batavia would mean no more than an hour drive to any part of the District.
Despite the addition of portions of Erie and Ontario Counties, the District is largely rural and some argue that Collins choosing an office outside of Erie County would send a strong message about his commitment to farm communities.
Congresswoman Kathy Hochul, whom Collins unseated, has her main office in Williamsville with another location in Greece, which is no longer within the lines of the district.
