Yogurt is not a fad. According to the Muller/Quaker partnership, Americans will spend $9 billion on yogurt in 2016 -- up 9-percent from 2008.
At GCC through 8 pm Tuesday, you can learn more about Muller/Quaker yogurt which is opening a plant in Batavia soon. You can even taste it.
Scott Gilmore is the director of communications for Pepsico which owns Quaker and partnered with the German yogurt company. He says picking Genesee County for the plant’s location was a great decision because of the local resources.
"We're actually really excited to be here and it's part of the reason we built the Batavia facility and today is all about that: celebrating the fact that we're here in Batavia and we're able to manufacture our yogurt here," Gilmore said.
The plant is significantly bigger than the one opened a few months ago for Alpina Yogurt at the Agri-Business Park. The company expects around 250 people to work inside the plant, which is set to open sometime next year.
Gilmore says he’s doesn’t have an exact number of people the company still plans on hiring, but they are currently accepting applications for a variety of positions. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com with a resume, cover letter and clear objective.
