Time Warner Cable is facing class action lawsuits due to its new cable modem rental fees.

The company has added a new $3.95 charge to lease a cable modem. It says customers can also buy their own.

Prosecutors say the additional charge adds up to $500 million a year for the company. The lawsuits are running through New York and New Jersey state courts.
