A motor-vehicle accident at the East Pembroke Fire Hall sends one woman to the hospital and put the department out of service for a period of time.

Troopers say the driver of a small SUV either passed out or fell asleep at the wheel going eastbound on East Main Road. There she lost control of her car, went airborne and struck the door of the fire hall. The car struck a fire truck and the building sustained some damage as well. It happened at around 3:45 Thursday afternoon.

The woman was taken to ECMC with minor injuries, but she complained of stomach pain.

“We’re very lucky that there was no oncoming traffic coming westbound. We probably would have had a much more serious accident," Trooper Mark Catanzaro said.

The East Pembroke fire station staff was able to safely remove all the trucks from the building, which disabled its operations briefly. Crews are on standby as they work to clear the scene.
