The number of people working in Genesee County in October is higher than in 2011, but so is the unemployment rate, according to figures released today by the Department of Labor.
There are 30,200 people working in the county which is up from 29,700 a year ago; however, the unemployment rate year-over-year went up from 6.8 percent to 7.2 percent.
The state counts 2,300 unemployed people in the county for October 2012 and 2,200 a year ago. In September of this year, the unemployment rate was 7.1 percent.
Ontario and Yates Counties lead western New York with unemployment rates under 7 percent (6.8 and 6.6, respectively). Conversely, Orleans County ranks second with a rate of 10.2 percent; only Bronx County in New York City is higher (12.5).
