Batavia City Hall has once again gone to the ranks of the retired to fill a vacancy.
City Manager Jason Molino confirmed today retired licensed plumber Ron Toal has been hired to be the city’s plumbing inspector on a temporary basis.
Toal takes over the job from his cousin, Barb Toal, who was placed on administrative leave yesterday for her comments during Monday’s city council meeting.
Barb Toal is scheduled to retire tomorrow.
The city will also be without a fire chief on Friday.
Interim Fire Chief Ralph Hyde is retiring for the second time.
Hyde was brought out of retirement to temporarily fill the chief’s post a year ago.
Molino has not yet named a replacement for Hyde. He told WBTA today that the administrative duties of the fire department will be covered by one of the four department captains.
