Batavia Police are on the lookout for a lone bandit who held up the Dollar general Store on East Main Street.
Lawmen raced to scene shortly before 7 last night looking for a suspect described as a possible Hispanic man of medium skin tone, in his 20’s and wearing a hooded jacket.
At the scene, BPD Sergeant John Peck tells describes what happened:
"He (the suspect) gave the clerk a note. The note threatened harm if she didn't do what he said. he gestured thast he had some type of weapon in his coat pocket and he then took the money from the cash register."
Police are reviewing the store’s video surveillance.
They believe the suspect fled on foot.
Recent talks about moving the Batavia Muckdogs to Binghamton have shut down.
The website ESPNnewYork.com is reporting that a deal between Ottawa and Binghamton to send the Double-A B-Mets to Canada has fallen through.
A Baseball America report this week indicated that the agreement between Ottawa and Binghamton was nearly final and that Binghamton was eyeing the Muckdogs as a short-season replacement to their B-Mets.
The ESPNNewYork.com report says the Baseball America article was true at the time before the deal went sour.
The article does not speculate on the impact on Batavia.
The Genesee County Legislature meets tonight to take final action on next year’s county budget.
That financial plan hold’s the line on county taxes but does provide for pay raises for top county managers.
The budget also includes a 215-thosuand dollar county subsidy for the EDC, the county’s economic development agency. At least three legislators were opposed to the subsidy.
The legislature meets at 7 tonight in the old county courthouse.
A baby girl has died and a 24-year-old woman is charged with vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving.
The crash happened yesterday in the Erie County Town of Brant. Police say Danielle Kellogg was drunk when she crashed her 2003 Ford Explorer into a car driven by a Hamburg woman with her baby inside.
The car was split in half by the impact, and the infant was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.
