A tenant of a State Street rooming house remains behind bars this morning pending further court action.
51-year-old Dennis Wolfe apparently fired one shot from a .357-magnum on Friday afternoon.
That brought police racing to the scene.
It took about 15 minutes to get Wolfe to surrender. During that time, he pointed the gun at himself and at one point aimed it at officers.

Jaquetta Simmons could soon be released from prison pending appeal of her sentence.
An appellate court has granted Simmons a stay of her 5-year prison term for assaulting a Wal-mart cashier last Christmas Eve.
Simmons lawyers are arguing that the sentence was too harsh for someone without a prior criminal record.
Simmons is also eight-months pregnant.

From the weekend police beat:

26-year-old Nicole Bilby of West Main Street Road was arrested and jailed for allegedly becoming unruly and disruptive at the Batavia Police Department. She was told several times by officers to leave, she apparently didn’t. Her bail set at $1,000.

36-year-old Joshua Baltz has been locked up on charges of criminal contempt and endangering the welfare of a child.
Batavia Police say Baltz repeatedly violated an order of protection by calling and threatening the protected person.

Governor Andrew Cuomo will travel to Washington today to try and convince Congress to approve nearly $42-billion in federal aid for super storm Sandy.
The governor is expected to lobby for $32-billion for the damage caused by Sandy and roughly $9-billion for preventative measures for the next big storm.

What a betrayal of justice that Jaquetta Simmons is allowed to win a stay of sentence on appeal in part due to the fact that she is pregnant. Along with her brother, she willfully, maliciously verbally and physically attacked a senior citizen HALF her size and ran out of the building without any thought to the possibility that she may have seriously injured the woman, to her van that was illegally parked in a handicapped spot (which is something many seasoned shoplifters do to make a quick getaway) and continued to verbally taunt and spew racist abuse at the people who tried to stop her from leaving the scene of the crime. And now they feel the sentence is too harsh? Again, if she is pregnant, maybe this is a very fortuitous timing of events for Ms. Simmons. Or was it a planned pregnancy because "they don't send pregnant women to jail"? My biggest fear is that justice was served, and it will be vacated because Ms. Simmons has worked the system on her behalf. If she was truly sorry for her deeds and had taken responsibility for the vicious acts - but this is not the case.
