Negotiations between the NHL and the Players' Association have broken down again. Offers from both sides have been rejected and talks between the two sides have now been suspended indefinitely. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman says he's discouraged.
“I am disappointed beyond belief that we are where we are tonight and we’re going to have to take a deep breath and try to regroup.”
The sides met for an hour after meeting for nearly 20 hours over the previous two days. The sides reportedly exchanged proposals on Wednesday. The NHLPA then submitted a counter-offer on Thursday, but the owners quickly shot it down.
The lockout is nearing the three-month mark and has already forced the cancellation of more than one-third of the regular season games, the Winter Classic and NHL All-Star Weekend.
