An Oakfield man accidentally shot by his father, as the two were turkey hunting, lies in guarded condition this morning at Strong Memorial.
46-year-old Scott Hartman suffered pellet wounds to his face and chest.
Scott’s father, 71-year-old Howard Hartman, fired one shot not realizing his son had doubled back around him.
The accident happened yesterday morning as the two were hunting in woods off Albion Road in Oakfield.
A 19-year-old has been arrested in LeRoy for allegedly striking a child he was babysitting. Nicolas Thurley of Lake Street, LeRoy has been arrested for endangering the welfare of a child. LeRoy Police said Thurley struck the child on the face and buttocks, leaving bruises. The child was 7 months old.
Thurley is in the Genesee County Jail.
Genesee County lawmen are beginning to question just what happened Saturday when a Batavia man said he was shot in the back during a robbery attempt.
35-year-old Carlos Torres claims he was just walking along a road in Pembroke, he’s not sure what road, when someone drove up from behind, demanded his wallet and shot him twice in the back.
Chief Deputy Jerry Brewster with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office says parts of the case don’t add up. Brewster questioned why Torres called a friend to take him to the hospital and not the police. Torres underwent surgery at Strong Hospital. He is in satisfactory condition.
Drugs are everywhere.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office reports today that a 17-year-old has been arrested for allegedly selling drugs to a 14-year-old boy at York Central School.
Brandon Condello is accused of selling oxycodone pills to the boy while on school property. Brandon is locked up on $10,000 bail.
Jury selection continues today in the murder trial of Scott Doll.
The Corfu man is charged in the February 2009 bludgeoning death of Joseph Benaquist.
Forty potential jurors were questioned yesterday.
The entire trial is estimated to last up to three weeks.
The Batavia City School Board is holding a hearing tonight into next year’s school budget. The $39.9-million dollar-spending plan increases the tax rate by just over one-percent.
The budget hearing will be held tonight at 7:30pm in Jackson School. A special meeting of the school board will follow the hearing.
Better hang up that cell phone while driving this week. Troopers are kicking off a ticket-writing blitz today aimed at drivers not using hands-free devices. State police say the enforcement area includes the New York State Thruway from the Pennsylvania border to Rochester as well as the Niagara Thruway.
