One Democratic state senator is evoking issues of racism when talking about the new Senate coalition government and Governor Cuomo's assessment of the situation.
Senator Bill Perkins released a statement Tuesday urging Cuomo to "stand up for representative government and against the plantation politics of backroom deals putting us on the back of the bus!" Perkins believes the Republican-IDC coalition government in the Senate will ultimately work against numerous bills important to New Yorkers, and he wants Cuomo to step in. Cuomo has said he is staying out of the leadership fight.
Perkins later expanded on his comments, saying that policies that affect minorities would go to waste with a Republican-controlled Senate.
