We now know the identity of a Genesee County resident who won $5 million in the New York lottery.

Jasvir Kaur of Bergen will take home a lump sum of $3.3 million after taxes. Kaur said her husband bought the ticket Nov. 13 at Alexander’s Country Deli in Alexander.

“I looked at it a couple times and gave to it to him because I didn’t believe it,” Kaur said. “He took the ticket and said ‘yeah, I think we did it!’ He always thought we win one day, but I wasn’t so sure.”

Lottery officials said Kaur won the jackpot playing a multiplier scratch-off game which costs $20.

According to the NY Lottery, Kaur’s plans for the money include purchasing a car and taking care of her family.

The NY Lottery contributed $13,942,256.31 in Lottery Aid To Education to school districts throughout Genesee County during fiscal year 2011-12.
