Multiple reports indicate that a Wyoming County soldier was shot and killed in Texas last week.
Fort Hood officials say 25-year-old Austin Sampson of Bliss was one of three men shot outside a convenience store in Killeen, Texas on Jan. 3.
Sampson served the country in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn and was the recipient of several awards and decorations: the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with three campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. He entered active duty in 2006 as a cavalry scout.
Police are still investigating and don’t have a motive for the shooting, nor has a suspect been arrested.
