Congressman Brian Higgins says warning signs should have prevented mistakes at the Buffalo VA Hospital involving the reuse of insulin pens.

Higgins is outlining several warnings about the practice going back as far as 2008, when the Centers for Disease Control warned hospitals of unsafe injection practices. Despite this warning and several others over the last few years, the Buffalo VA Hospital continued to reuse insulin pens, leaving more than 700 patients possibly exposed to HIV and hepatitis infections.
